Morgan's Motor Engineers' (Vehicle Repair Depot)
Recently achieved 70 years trading from their premises at 54, Fakenham Road, Drayton.
Founded in 1947 by Terry Morgan, an Aircraft Fitter/Technician in the Middle East, during Wartime Service, they were one of the first Garages to be approved by the Ministry of Transport to inspect vehicles when the Mandatory M.O.T. Test was introduced from the 12th September 1960. His son, Keith, joined the Firm on leaving school and obtained his City & Guilds in Motor Vehicle Mechanics at the Norwich City College and Rural Industries Bureau Awards.
Terry Morgan died in 1987 just at the age of retirement, seven weeks after his wife Nancy passed away. Nancy did the Office work at the garage. The Business has been carried on by Keith, who is pleased that his son, William has followed in his footsteps and gained BTEC National Diplomas at Norwich City College. They have a loyal band of appreciative customers, some of them Grand-children of Terry's first customers, one gentleman using the Garage for 59 years. Many interesting tales can be told and some memorabilia of their early years can be seen at the North Yorkshire Motor Museum. It is envisaged that Morgan's will continue to serve the motorist for many years to come.
